Karice recently graduated from the University of Delaware with a Master’s degree in Energy and Environmental Policy. During this time she worked as a research assistant for Dr. John Byrne and together with his team at the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, compiled data on community solar elements across the United States in an effort to determine best practices for Delaware. This data was used to produce the report “Navigating The Changing Landscape of Community Solar In Delaware: Policy Designs and Governance Frameworks to Support Community-Owned Sustainable Energy”. This report was used in the formulation of a community solar bill for Delaware. Under the guidance of Dr. Byrne, she also conducted analytical research on local governance of renewable energy resources for increased social benefits.
Karice previously worked with Dr. Jerry Kauffman at the University’s Water Resources Center by analyzing 23 miles of the Brandywine River for dam removal/modification to potentially increase the Shad population by 26,000 and conducted weekly testing of the White Clay Creek to ensure safe nitrate levels for the local drinking water.
Karice has a background in science and gained experience as a Petroleum Geologist at the national oil and gas company of her home country, Trinidad and Tobago. It was during this time that she decided to make a career shift to cleaner energy. She has a passion for climate change, sustainable energy, sustainable development, energy policy, and environmental justice.
