James A. Rising

Research Fellow

James Rising is an Associate Professor in the School of Marine Science & Policy at the University of Delaware. Dr. Rising is a leader in the field of climate change economics, with particular expertise in the societal risks of climate change and integrated modeling for climate policy. Before joining the University of Delaware, Dr. Rising held positions at the London School of Economics, the University of Chicago, and the University of California, Berkeley. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Dr. Rising’s work has appeared in the New York Times, the Economist, Bloomberg News, The Guardian, and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Rising is the lead author on six reports on topics ranging from the climate change in the coffee sector, just transitions in energy, and coastal economies. He is a faculty affiliate at the Climate Impact Lab, a fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, and at the University of Delaware’s Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence and Data Science Institute. Prior to his research career, Dr. Rising worked with over a dozen companies as a software developer in online communities and artificial intelligence.
